Dermapen
Skin Needling

The Full Story

What is Collagen Induction Therapy or Dermapen Microneedling?
Dermapen microneedling is a sought-after skin rejuvenation treatment, it's a natural process that kickstarts the body's repair and renewal mechanisms to boost collagen production. This procedure involves precise adjustments of micro-fine needles to create tiny punctures/injuries on the skin's surface, allowing for the deep penetration of specialised serums which target specific skin concerns. The absorption of these serums knows as Meso-Glides, coupled with the skins' natural response to the injuries, helps stimulate the creation of new collagen whilst helping remodel the existing elastin, which leads to firmer, more youthful skin.

Aside from addressing lines, wrinkles, and blemishes on the face, Dermapen microneedling can also be utilised on various parts of the body such as the hands, neck, and décolleté. Whether you're looking to combat thinning, sagging, sun-damaged, problematic or acne prone skin, this treatment offers a versatile solution.

With numerous microneedling options available in clinic, it's crucial to research and understand the differences between the devices and treatments to ensure safe and effective results. When performed correctly in a sterile environment, microneedling can yield rapid and impressive improvements to your skin's appearance.

So how does Dermapen Microneedling actually work?

The incredible results produced by skin needling can be attributed to the wound healing response, which occurs in four distinct phases.

Phase 1, Known as Haemotasis, occurs immediately as the needles roll across the skin, causing platelets to stem the flow of blood and temporarily close the wound.

Phase 2, The Inflammation Phase, takes place over the next few days, triggering the body's natural healing response. Redness and warmth are common as the skin removes bacteria and debris, while platelets release growth factors essential for collagen induction.

Phase 3, The Proliferation Phase, sees the body forming new blood vessels and fibroblasts, leading to the deposition of new collagen and tissue formation.

Phase 4, Maturation/Remodeling, new collagen and elastin are formed, creating a plumper dermis and reducing scar tissue. Skin needling is a safe option for all skin types, as it causes no damage to surrounding tissue. Prior skin treatments like the Aqua Glo Hydrobrasion or chemical peels will enhance results when starting a skin needling regimen. The number of sessions needed varies based on individual skin conditions, with results being cumulative over time. In saying that, 4 sessions as a minimum typically spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart will maximize the results and benefits.

How to get the most out of the treatments?

1. Avoid sun exposure
Following your skin needling treatment, it is crucial to avoid sun exposure. Due to increased sensitivity, your skin is more susceptible to sunburn.
Avoiding sun exposure for a min of 48 hours is paramount to protect your skin and your skin needling results. After that a hat and spf 50+ must be worn.

2. Avoid wearing make up
To aid in the healing process, it is vital to refrain from using makeup for a minimum of 24 hours after undergoing a skin needling procedure. If makeup is necessary, opt for non-comedogenic and oil-free products. It is advisable to strictly adhere to the provided post-procedure instructions and utilize the recommended aftercare products as part of your treatment. This includes  gentle cleanser and a customised serum. You can apply a lightweight moisturiser over the top of the serum to help with dryness.

3. Avoid any heat inducing activities
Using hot water can deplete the skin's natural oils and disturb the healing micro-environment of the skin. It is recommended to steer clear of hot showers or baths for 24 hours post-treatment. Additionally, saunas, steam rooms, and other heat treatments should be avoided during this time as they can further irritate the skin.
Engaging in heavy cardio and excessive sweating should also be avoided. Be cautious when opening a dishwasher or standing over a stove to prevent unnecessary heat exposure to the treated skin.

4. Avoid alcohol (sorry! Party pooper)
It is advisable to refrain from consuming alcohol for 24 hours after the treatment as it can lead to dehydration and irritation. Have a night off. It’s not just your skin which will thank you.

5. Stay committed and consistent

Like every result achieved in life, consistency is key. Rebook your next treatment, continue with your customised skincare routine and follow your dermal therapists treatment plan and instructions. If you want to join the No Make Up Club you've got to do the work.

What makes our skin needling treatments different?

Not here to toot our own horn. Just simply stating the facts.

1. We strive for comfort

We topically apply a medical grade compounded local anaesthetic. Does that answer the "Does it hurt" question? We believe in creating the most comfortable treatment possible.

2. Procedures are not rushed

Skin needling appointments are not rushed. They are an hour long. This includes the time to prepare and numb the skin.

3. Post care comfort is just as important

After skin needing is completed a cooling sheet mask is applied to the skin which helps ease the erythema (redness and heat) caused by the treatment.

4. There are no hidden costs or unexpected charges
You do not need to "purchase" aftercare products. Everything needed to care for your skin post procedure is included in the treatment costs and given to you after the procedure.

5. When a full face is treated, we include the neck FREE

You will not pay extra for the neck, it is included in the skin needling costs. This is our point of difference.
