What Is Rosacea & Redness?

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that primarily affects the central areas of the face, including the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead. It commonly presents as persistent redness, flushing and visible blood vessels, and in some cases may also involve small inflamed bumps that resemble acne.

Rosacea can vary in severity and may flare periodically, often leaving the skin feeling sensitive, reactive or easily irritated. Many individuals with rosacea also experience heightened skin sensitivity and a compromised skin barrier.

Why It Happens?

The exact cause of rosacea is not fully understood, however it is believed to involve a combination of genetic predisposition, vascular sensitivity and inflammation within the skin.

Certain triggers can stimulate blood vessels in the skin to dilate, leading to increased redness and flushing.

Common contributing factors include:

  • Genetic predisposition

  • Environmental exposure such as sun, heat or wind

  • Hot beverages, alcohol or spicy foods

  • Stress and emotional triggers

  • Hormonal fluctuations

  • Skin barrier disruption

  • Overuse of harsh or active skincare products

Over time, repeated flushing can lead to more persistent redness and visible capillaries.

What We See In Clinic

Clients experiencing rosacea or facial redness often present with:

  • Persistent redness across the cheeks, nose or central face

  • Frequent flushing or blushing

  • Visible broken capillaries or thread veins

  • Skin sensitivity or burning sensations

  • Small red bumps or pustules that resemble acne

  • Skin that reacts easily to skincare products or environmental triggers

Rosacea-prone skin is often highly reactive, and symptoms may worsen when the skin barrier becomes compromised.
